O R D E R 
 
On July 16, 2025, the defendant appeared in person for the purpose of an initial 
appearance pursuant to the Petition for Warrant or Summons for Offender Under 
Supervision.  Amy McLaughlin, Assistant United States Attorney, was present for the 
United States and Emily Szopinski, Assistant Federal Public Defender, was present for 
the defendant.  Also present was Mark Ruscello, United States Probation Officer. 
The defendant was not called upon to plead.  The Court informed the defendant 
of the charges in the Petition, of his right to counsel, and of matters relating to conditions 
of release.  The Court further informed the defendant that he was not required to make 
a statement and that any statement made by the defendant may be used against him. 
 The Court found the defendant qualifies for court-appointed counsel based upon 
the financial affidavit submitted by defendant.  It is ORDERED that the Office of the 
Federal Public Defender shall represent the defendant for the initial appearance only.  It 
is hereby ORDERED that John J. Balenovich shall represent the defendant for all further 
proceedings in this matter.  
    
The defendant shall next appear for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday,  
July 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. before the Honorable Omar J. Aboulhosn, United States 
Magistrate Judge, in Courtroom 5600 in Charleston.

It is hereby ORDERED that the defendant is detained and remanded to the 
custody of the United States Marshal pending the preliminary hearing. 
The Clerk is directed to provide copies of this Order to the defendant, all counsel 
of record, the United States Probation Department, and the United States Marshal 
Service.
