I am writing this letter as a character reference for Carla Jackson, Case No. 1:20-CR-296.
I am Adrian Gaines and I am Carla’s step son. It sounds weird saying “stepson” because
as long as I can remember she has always been in my life. I will be 27 this year and I can
say together we have been rocking and rolling for 24 years. My parents got a divorce
when I was 3 years old and since the age of 3 she has been a major presence in
everything I have done. From picking me up in Elementary school to her coming and
supporting me in my extracurricular activities. She truly adopted and embraced the role
as a mother. And for that I am forever in her corner no matter what. To be writing a
letter like this seems so surreal t me because I know this isn’t a part of her character.
Carla is an honest, hardworking, and responsible person. She is always willing to help
family, friends, foes and even people she does not know. Carla has a heart of gold, and
she is truly genuine.
Carla is an active member of the community, she donates to the needy, she feeds the
homeless, she mentors to teenage girls. She is a God-Fearing woman and attends Church
on most Sunday mornings.
Carla Jackson is a valuable member of our society who has made a positive impact on
those around her. I strongly recommend her as a person of great character who deserves
leniency in her current legal situation.

I'm Beverly Davis, a Georgia resident originally from Gary, Indiana where I served administratively at the
United States Attorney’s Office Northern District of Indiana, US Treasury Department Bureau of ATF, Rogers
and Roehl Transport, currently at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital for the past eight years.
This correspondence is to request that there will be a considerable minimum sentencing for Carla Jackson. In
1982 when my family moved into the same neighborhood I observed a quiet, kind young lady whom I learned
as we reconnected in 2006 and she remained a polished, reserved woman. I have such admiration for her gentle
soul. Carla and a group of inspiring women formed a unique family known as the Ladies of Wisdom Book
Club. She graciously hosts our gatherings with a warm and inviting space for reflection and rehabilitation. I
hope you will appreciate that The Ladies of Wisdom have been taken aback by the news of her case. We were
all just serving the community by distributing sleeping bags during the cold temperatures back in January
together.
Carla has been a constant support of the American Heart Association as I advocate being a 32-year open heart
survivor and her wellness checks on me personally have helped me go to work and smile even when feeling
down. Losing access to Carla would be devastating. May she be granted grace as these past three years have
provided for humbling accountability and rehabilitation that we have witnessed and supported.

My name is Charlotte E. Frisby. I have known Carla Jackson for over twenty
five years. I have worked with Ms. Jackson and also count her as a friend.
I am writing to you to ask that you consider Ms. Jackson’s character in
sentencing her for these offenses. I understand and respect the court's verdict
of having found Ms. Jackson guilty of the crimes before your court. I am
writing to you today to offer a fuller picture of her charater.
The Carla Jackson I know is a very generous and loyal person. Her loyalty I
found sometimes would be a detriment to herself as she could not see any
disloyalty or dishonesty in those people she loved. Carla was always a hard
working, cooperative and good hearted person.

My name is Cynthia Moore, I currently work at Georgia Institute of Technology
where I have been employed for almost 20 years. Over the last decade and half, I have
worked in the capacity as Director and as Asst Director of Operations. I’ve also had the
privilege to teach 1st year students at Tech and adult learners at St. Leo University. I’ve
been married for over 30 years, my husband dedicated 20 years in the US Navy. His
last duty station was here in Atlanta where Carla and I reconnected. We both grew up
in Gary, IN and lived in the same neighborhood where we became fast friends. Carla
has a contagious smile; a friendly disposition and we became good friends in grade
school. I was new to the neighborhood didn’t have many friends but every time I saw
Carla she was always friendly and had a smile on her face. For a little girl who couldn’t
make friends easily, Carla was a breath of sunshine. We have known each other for
over 40 years.
There are close to 20 classmates from Gary, IN who relocated and reconnected
in Atlanta. We formed a book club called “Ladies of Wisdom” as a form of our
sisterhood and love for one another. The book club has been going strong for over 10
years. During the pandemic Carla made sure everyone stayed connected and often
hosted events at her home. Opening her home for book club events, birthday
gathering, or just to catch-up with the ladies. Carla worked for IBM for several years
where her clients would often request to work directly with her. She is associated with
several organizations that provides meals, clothes, and tents to the homeless
community in Atlanta. Carla embodies the true definition of friendship! She is loyal,
dedicated, trustworthy, encouraging, dependable, and doesn’t hesitate to support her
friends and family whenever possible. She has the support of her loving family, church
members, book club sisters, and a host of friends.
I am writing this letter to describe how special Carla is to our book club, as a
friend, and to offer a more in-depth picture. She is the most genuine person I have ever
met. With a strong heart, I would ask that you please consider probation, time served, or
a very lenient sentence. Please consider her exceptional background and the excellent
person she truly is. This offense isn’t who is she nor is it indicative of her character.
She is worthy of a second chance.

My name is Dionne Booker. Carla Jackson is my sister. She is the oldest of my mother’s 3
children. I have known her and been around her for 52 years.
I am wriƟng in support of my sister Carla Jackson. I understand and respect the jury’s decision
in this case. I would like to share some details on my sister and the person that she really is.
Our upbringing was under the care of a single mother, and as the oldest sibling, Carla took on
the responsibility of looking aŌer me and my brother when needed. Carla selflessly shouldered
the household duƟes, including cooking, cleaning, and washing clothes, ensuring that our family
ran smoothly despite the challenges we faced. Her dedicaƟon to our well-being and her
willingness to sacrifice her own needs for ours is a testament to her character and her sense of
responsibility. Carla conƟnued her responsibility of looking out for our family when she became
an aunt. My sister has had a profound impact in the lives of my children. As a mother of two,
Carla has played a significant role in their upbringing, going above and beyond the duƟes of an
aunt by becoming a cherished role model, mentor and their biggest cheerleader. From their
early years through high school, Carla acƟvely engaged with them, especially in their sports
acƟviƟes, providing unwavering support at every turn. Carla's influence extended beyond the
ordinary; she made sure to be present consistently, cheering them on from the sidelines and
celebraƟng their achievements. Her dedicaƟon to their growth and well-being is exemplary, as
evidenced by the love she showers upon my children. In a memorable instance, Carla even took
them on their first airplane ride, creaƟng lasƟng memories and experiences that have enriched
their lives. I have witnessed firsthand Carla's exemplary character and posiƟve impact on those
around her. Carla has consistently displayed compassion, integrity, and a strong sense of
responsibility. She has always been a pillar of support for me and others in need.

When I first relocated to NJ, Carla was one of the first to extend her support, visiƟng me
and assisƟng with my transiƟon. Her generosity knows no bounds; whether it's offering a
place to stay, providing airport pickups, or simply extending a helping hand, Carla's
kindness has always shone through.
This only scratches the surface of Carla's genuine and compassionate nature. To me, she is

My name is James A. Moore and I retired from the United States Navy in 2005, taught high
school NJROTC for 9 years, selected as a Presidential Management Fellow, have been married to
my Wife for 32 years and currently work as a federal employee. I don’t mention these things to brag
on myself! I mention these things because integrity, honor, commitment and character matter a
great deal to me!
I have known Carla since 1995. My Wife and her have been the dearest of friends since
before I met my Wife! In the last 15 years I have gotten to know Carla very well and spent a lot of
time with her. In every meeting and interaction with her she has always been kind, considerate,
honest and of great character! For all of her adult life Carla has been an upstanding citizen and an
incredible person.
I realize she is in a situation now where this letter is necessary and needed. Necessary to
provide a view of Carla for your Honor that you may not be aware of and needed to show my
strongest support for leniency and mercy!
Carla is a person that truly deserves mercy and leniency! I have two daughters that respect
and admire her and to whom Carla has been a role model! During a time when my Wife was
seriously ill, Carla unselfishly provided care and support while I lived out of state! I have observed
and witnessed Carla provide equal care and support to our friends and family.
Your Honor, I strongly believe we are not defined by our worst decision or choice! I want you
to know that Carla should not be defined by just this situation! Criss Jami said, “It is not true that
everyone is special. It is true that everyone was once special and still possesses the ability to

Dear Honorable Judge Boulee:
Allow me to formally introduce myself. I am Janice C. Walker, the mother of Carla J. Jackson and
matriarch of my family. Never under any circumstances did I think I would write a letter such as this.
First and foremost, Carla is one of the most honest, generous, loving, kind, passionate and responsible
person on this earth. She cares deeply for her family, friends, community and church.
From an early age people saw her as someone special. Teachers were in awe of her. From pre-school
through college the faculty, staff and students appreciated her work ethics. As a teenager (we all know
how difficult that stage in life can be) I could not have asked for a better child. There were times when I
worked two jobs or worked late. Carla stepped up and assisted my mother with caring for her younger
brother and sister. She was a great babysitter to my colleagues and family members. She used the money
she earned to pay for school activities, clothes, family outings and when the time came, she paid some of
her college tuition and bought her first car.
Throughout her career Carla has used a portion of her salary to help others. She has donated money to
various charities, made contributions to children in Georgia’s Foster Care system, donated blood to the
Red Cross’ blood drives, volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, participated and donated to various feed
the homeless programs, paid for students to participate in their school’s activities, helped others with
college tuition and books. Also, she would visit students at various universities and colleges and
purchased supplies for their dorm rooms. When her brother (2002) and cousin (2003) were murdered,
Carla stepped up and held our family together. I was injured in a car accident (2006) and subsequently
was declared disabled; Carla became my caregiver.
In summary, I am writing to request leniency for Carla. Both of us understand the seriousness of the
situation she is facing. Therefore, I am asking you to take into consideration the positive contributions she
has and will continue to make to society.

My name is Keith Meadows and I’ve known Ms. Carla Jackson for the better part of 24 years.
I can say without hesitation that she has always impressed me as a person of high character and
morally sound judgement. Your Honor, I understand these unfortunate set of circumstances would
give rise for you to question my words; however, during the time I’ve known Ms. Jackson, she served
as the glue to keep our families together to raise my stepson, Adrain Gaines. Today, Adrian is a well-
adjusted young man attending the East Point Fire Academy. I also know that Ms. Jackson was loyal
to her ex-husband John Gaines, sometimes to a fault.
I’ve served as a law enforcement professional for nearly 40 years, and I’ve seen Ms.
Jackson’s story play itself out time and time again. We never believe the people we love would steer
our lives in this direction; however, that is a burden Ms. Jackson will have to bear. The question
becomes, would the Country benefit from her incarceration? Ultimately Your Honor, it’s up to you;
however, it’s my humble opinion that Ms. Jackson, a retired global project manager from IBM and a
person with no criminal history could serve her sentence in a more creative way. I also understand
the toll these PPE loans have taken on the court system, I recently had a cousin convicted for
similar circumstances and he asked me to write a letter for him, I refused because I’m familiar with

I have known Carla Jackson for 20+ years and I know that she is a person of upstanding
character. She has been a stepmother to my grandson since he was 3 years old. I am a
very protective grandmother and really don’t believe that no one can take care of my
grandchildren better than myself or their mother, my daughter; however, I trusted Carla
completely with my grandson. After the divorce, Carla stepped right in and assumed the
role of stepmom to my grandson, Adrian. She was a positive role model to him, a bright
light if you will during a very difficult time in his young life. Carla made sure that
Adrian was able to call my daughter during all visitations, with him being so young,
those phone calls went a long way to ease all our minds when he was away during school
breaks and summer vacations. I remember my daughter; Adrian’s mom and my son-in-
law went on a trip. My daughter was trying to get Adrian into a school out of district but
at that time, it was first come first serve and you had to stand in line at the school of your
choice only on 1 specific day. That specific day was during my daughter’s cruise, and
she could not be at two places at the same time. So, Carla drove across town, picked me
up at 4:00am and we headed to the school. We took turns standing in that long, long line
for hours to get my grandson, Adrian into that great school. In the end, we were
successful, and we got it done. Adrian was able to attend the school that my daughter
chose for him. How many wives, stepmoms would spend their Saturday standing in a
line for hours for an ex-wife, a child that is not theirs with the ex-wife’s mother? Not
many, but that is Carla Jackson, she is selfless, loves hard and will give you a 110%
every time. Carla is just a great person.
As long as I have known Carla, she has been an honest, hardworking, and responsible
person. She is always willing to help those in need. She feeds the homeless, she donates
to Goodwill, and she loves God.
Carla Jackson is a valuable member of our society who has been a positive role model to
those around her. I strongly recommend her as a person of good character who deserves
leniency in her current legal situation.

was 13 years old, for almost 40 now. Her sister Dionne and I both new met in homeroom in the eighth
grade on the first day of school and have been best friends since. Both of our mothers being single
mothers and new to the state our families bonded as well and now consider one another family.

guilty I would like the courts to know the person that I know. Carla is an amazing person with the biggest
and most generous heart. Carla has always been kind loving and supportive of those around her and
would give you her last and has always looked after me just as she did her sister Dionne. Carla has been
there for me at pivotal times in my life, from hiring me for my first job at McDonalds, and making sure I
got there and back home, to doing my makeup on my wedding day and so many things between. I have
always looked up to Carla Jackson as an example of the kind of person I should strive to be. I have never
heard Carla raise her voice or seen her treat another person badly in all the time I have known her.
When I heard about this, I was completely shocked because she is the last person in my life I would

I have known Carla Jackson for 26+ years and I am proud to say that she is a person of
good character. She has been a constant in my life as well as in my son’s life as his
Stepmother and to be honest we don’t use that term because she has helped raise him as
her own since he was 3-years old. Our son is 26 years old now and in a couple of days he
will be 27. Not many people get along with their ex-husband’s girlfriend, then wife;
however, with Carla, everything was different. She happily took on the role as friend, to
help in any way possible to make sure that Adrian received all the attention, love, and
care one will need during a divorce of his parents. The transition can be devastating to a
small child, and Adrian was around 3 during this time. I can attest that my son enjoyed
his childhood, physically and emotionally. He is a well-rounded person, a God-fearing
person, and I share this accomplishment with Carla.
In my experience, Carla has always been an honest, hardworking, and responsible
individual. She is always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, and I have seen
firsthand her dedication to helping others in need for example, I lived across town from
Carla and had broken my leg and could not drive. Adrian played rec basketball and took
swimming lessons around the corner from me. Most people would have just allowed him
to miss these practices after all they were with a recreation center for a 4- or 5-year-old.
Not Carla, she not only drove that distance, but she also took him to every one of those
practices for weeks. Adrian didn’t miss one practice and she not once asked for gas
money, food money or anything else. Carla is truly a genuine person and when she loves
she loves extremely hard.
In addition, Carla has been an active member of the community, she regularly donates to
the needy, she mentors to teenage girls, she feeds the unsheltered and is a staple in her
Church family.

community and family over the years. I firmly believe that a lenient sentence, or
even probation, would allow her the opportunity to continue her journey towards
redemption and rehabilitation.
In closing, I ask for your understanding and compassion as you deliberate on
Carla Jackson’s case. She is someone special, deserving of a chance to rectify
her mistake and prove that this incident is not a reflection of who she truly is.
Your honor, I implore you to see beyond this isolated incident and recognize the
inherent goodness within my aunt.

My name is Thetma Tyl.er. I am writing to ask that you consider Carta Jackson's character in
sentencing her for the offenses which she is accused. l've known Ms. Jackson for over 25 years
and never woutd have thought that she would have been invotved in anything such as this. White
l've not spoken with or been in the company of Ms. Jackson as often in recent years as I had in my
eartier years of knowing her, I stit[ consider her to be a friend. The Carta Jackson that I know is a
very sweet and toving person. She is a dedicated/toving daughteri sweet sister, amazingaunt,
caring co-wgrker and a fantastic friend. Carta is atso a very trusting person. When she trusts you,
she does so with her whole heart. This can be viewed as both a blessing and a fau[t.
It is my hope that this letter heLps to shine more tight on the type of person Carta Jackson is in reat
tife. I thank the court for attowing me to briefty speak of the Carta Jackson I remember. I humbty
