I have known Anuli for over 40 years and can personally attest to her character, integrity, and the positive impact she has had on those around her. Anuli is one of the kindest individuals I have ever met, generous to a fault, always willing to sacrifice her time and energy to ensure the well- being and comfort of others. Whether through acts of service or simple gestures of kindness, she has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to helping those in need. Beyond her kindness, Anuli is a person of deep honesty and integrity. She has always conducted herself truthfully, regardless of the circumstances, and has been a model of ethical behavior in all aspects of her life. Faith plays a central role in Anuli’s life, and she has been instrumental in encouraging my own spiritual growth within the Catholic Church. Her dedication to her faith is reflected in her actions, as she continually seeks to uplift and guide those around her with compassion and wisdom. She provided unwavering support for her aging parents, caring for her late father until his passing and continuing to care for her mother. Character recommendation for Leniency for Anuli Okeke Dear Honorable Judge Block, I am writing to you to respectfully request leniency in the sentencing of Anuli Okeke who is my sister-in-law. I can confidently attest to Anuli Okeke’s good character and her strong commitment to her family and community. My name is Chisom Nwazojie and I am married to Anuli’s younger sister Eyiuche Okeke Nwazojie. I met Anuli in 2001 when I began a relationship with her sister. Her sister Eyiuche and I have been married since 2003 and we have two children who is 17 years and who is 14 years. Anuli Okeke is a pillar of the family. She has been an invaluable source of support for my family, especially when our children were younger she always visited to care and encourage the kids to be the best versions of themselves. She is a trusted role model for our kids because of her genuine kindness and generosity to everyone around her. She will always visit to join the family in our annual charity events at My Brother’s Keeper Christmas Assistance or during the Summer at MBK Family Walk. Last year when my wife and I had to travel to Nigeria for my Father’s funeral, Anuli was only a call away from the kids making sure they were on top of their school schedule and they kept up with their daily activities at home. I will be forever indebted to Anuli for being a constant source of strength for my wife and I. Whether it is offering advice, being a shoulder to lean on or simply just being a big sister. Anuli is a woman of strong Christian faith who attends church regularly and is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Her faith is her moral compass and it guides her daily actions and choices with integrity and kindness. Anuli is my big sister, mentor and best friend. I am who I am today, thanks to her. She agreed for me to come live with her in New York, after I graduated from high school in Nigeria. At the time, she was just a college student herself, attending CUNY. I joined her at CUNY and in those days, we worked after school and on weekends during the school year, and throughout the entire summer to save up enough for our living expenses. I remember being nervous when I first shared about my dream of going to medical school, because this meant that I could no longer contribute as much financially. I needed to take time to study more, and explore opportunities that could prepare me for a career in medicine like hospital volunteer work and medical research. Anuli was excited for me and encouraged me to go on. She took fewer classes during the semester so she could work more. As a result, we ended up graduating from college the same year. I ended up going to Harvard Medical School and during those 4 years of medical school, she made sure I did not want for anything. She was there for me in my early training days when I started my family. Anuli came down to Boston countless times to help look after my kids when I was on call. In our Igbo culture, the first child is expected to be a guiding light to younger siblings. Anuli has more than lived up to this for our family. The loving foundation she provided along with a great work ethic is what has helped my younger brother and I excel. In addition to being very family oriented, she is deeply religious and actively participates in her church community and in the Igbo community. Since my father died in 2016, she has taken over managing my 78 yr old mom’s household in Nigeria. We all look to her for guidance and support. Having a big sister like Anuli has been a blessing. I am her younger brother, and I have known her all my life, for 47 years to be precise. I am aware that my sister Anuli will be appearing before you in court, and I would like to express my support for her. Anuli is the eldest sibling in our family of 3, raised in a Christian home with firm moral values. She always set the standard for myself and my immediate elder sister to follow. Against all odds, Anuli Left Nigeria after high school and settled for College in New York in 1992. She paved the way for my sister to join her in 1993, and finally, I joined her in 1996. She has continued to act as our mother in the US and will not hesitate to give us the shirt off her back. In all the years I have known Anuli, I have had the pleasure of experiencing how kind, honest, and hardworking she is. She held numerous high-level positions in various prominent banks and excelled in her career. I can attest to her strong moral character, as she is very active in our local churches and a very upstanding member of her community. Anuli is the cornerstone of our family and has been a major caregiver for our ailing mother after the passing of our father in Nigeria in 2016. Our mum, who now resides in Nigeria, visits the US annually for medical reasons. She is a wonderful sister-in-law to my wife, Sophia Okeke, and a fantastic aunt to our children, (11), (11), and (6). I am writing to attest to Ms. Okeke’s good character as an upstanding citizen and to respectfully request leniency in her sentencing. I have known Anuli Okeke since 2008 when I began a relationship with her brother, Mr. Nnadozie Okeke, who is now my husband. We have been married since 2011 and have three children: Okeke, aged 11, and Okeke, aged 6. From the moment I started my relationship with the Okeke family, Anuli welcomed me with warmth and friendship. She made me feel a deep sense of belonging, embracing me as a sister and friend, teaching me about Nigerian culture and the family’s traditions. When our twin daughters, were born in 2014, Anuli provided invaluable support. She stayed overnight in our home, helped feed the twins, and gave me much-needed rest during a challenging time. Her care and guidance helped me navigate the overwhelming experience of becoming a mother, and I will always be grateful for the way she helped me through those early days. Anuli was also very present during the birth of my third daughter in 2018, Okeke and is a dedicated and loving aunt who is always present. Anuli is a woman of strong Christian faith and regularly attends Times Square Church and St Francis of Assisi in Manhattan. She contributes actively to her church community with dedication and compassion. In addition, she is a devoted caregiver to her mother, Ms. Monica Okeke, who resides in Nigeria. Every summer, Anuli ensures that her mother visits the U.S. to spend time with her grandchildren and attend to her health needs. Anuli’s deep commitment to her family, faith, and responsibilities demonstrates her good character. She has been a constant and stabilizing presence in my life, my husband's life, and the lives of our three children.
