COUNSEL TO APPEAR TELEPHONICALLY AT HEARING ON

The United States of America, by Roger B. Handberg, United States 
Attorney for the Middle District of Florida, files this unopposed motion for 
counsel for the government, James Peterson, Esq., to appear telephonically, 
and states: 
1. 
This matter is currently scheduled for a status hearing on 
Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. (the “Hearing”).  
2. 
Co-counsel for the government, James Peterson, Esq., who is an 
attorney with DOJ’s Criminal Division, Mental Health Section, would like to 
attend the Hearing by telephone. Attorney Peterson works in Washington, 
D.C., and permission to appear by telephone would allow Attorney Peterson 
to avoid the expense of travel and accommodations that would be required 
with an in-person appearance. Additionally, given the impending effects of 
Hurricane Milton, it is likely that travel to and from Orlando for the Hearing 
would be difficult.

Thus, the United States respectfully requests that Attorney 
Peterson be permitted to appear by telephone for the Hearing.

The undersigned AUSA conferred with defense attorney, Brian 
Phllips, regarding the relief sought herein and there is no objection.  
 
WHEREFORE, the United States respectfully requests that Attorney 
Jim Peterson be permitted to appear telephonically for the hearing on October 
8, 2024 at 10:30 a.m.
