The National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) has received your character report application materials. 
 
Please review this email for answers to frequently asked questions.  
 
How long will it take for NCBE to process my application?  
 
Applications can take several weeks to several months to process. There is no predetermined time frame. 
Processing times can vary widely and are dependent on responses to NCBE’s inquiries. 
 
Application status is available in your NCBE Account; an Analyst will be assigned to your case after authorization 
and release forms are received at NCBE. Your assigned Analyst will contact you should additional information be 
required. 
 
Common issues that can delay processing of your application:  
o 
Incomplete or inaccurate contact information is provided in your application. 
o 
Your responses to NCBE’s requests for additional information are delayed. 
o 
Failure to receive prompt responses to NCBE’s inquiries (references, employers, creditors, etc.). 
How can I help expedite the processing time of my application?  
 
Provide current e‐mail addresses for your references and employers. 
 
Inform your references, employers, and creditors that NCBE may be contacting them. Review your application to 
ensure NCBE has complete and accurate contact information. 
 
Routinely check the File Cabinet in your NCBE Account for documents that require your attention and respond in 
a timely fashion. 
 
Amend your application with any updates or contact changes. For instructions on how to amend go to our FAQs. 
Am I eligible for a refund?  
 
If you request a refund for any reason after submitting your payment (credit card information, check, or money 
order), a processing fee will be retained. Once NCBE has generated correspondence on your application, the 
entire fee payment is non‐refundable.
