ORDER 
 
Before the court is defendant’s Motion to Extend Self-Surrender Date [Doc. 130]. 
On December 7, 2021, defendant pled guilty to two counts of making false statements to 
financial institutions for the purpose of influencing those institutions on Paycheck Protection 
Program loan applications.  On June 7, 2022, the court sentenced Ms. Thomas to a term of thirty 
months imprisonment.  The court ordered the defendant to make restitution in the total amount of 
$774,753.50.   
The court ordered Ms. Thomas to surrender to the institution designated by the Bureau of 
Prisons before 2 p.m. on July 20, 2022.  On July 13, 2022, counsel for Ms. Thomas filed a Motion 
to Stay Surrender Date [Doc. 124] pending resolution of a § 2255 motion filed that day.  The 
plaintiff responded [Doc. 128], and the court denied the motion to stay surrender, finding that Ms. 
Thomas had failed to show exceptional and deserving reasons for a stay.  [Doc. 129].   
On July 20, 2022, Ms. Thomas filed the Motion to Extend Self-Surrender Date now before 
the court.  In support, she submits medical records from Ascension St. John Medical Center 
showing that, on July 19, 2022, she was evaluated for a possible stroke.  Ms. Thomas requests the 
court extend her surrender date for a period of not less than fourteen (14) days.

Plaintiff opposes the motion.  [Doc. 132].  In support, plaintiff notes that the medical 
records show that the doctors found no evidence of a stroke, despite an extensive medical 
evaluation.  [See Doc. 130, pp. 5-11].   
Having reviewed the briefs and the medical records, the court finds and concludes that the 
43-year-old defendant has not shown she is suffering from a condition justifying further delay.  
Accordingly, defendant is directed to report to the designated facility before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, 
July 27, 2022. 
Defendant is advised that, in the event she fails to report as directed, the court may direct 
the United States Marshals Service to take her into custody, in which case she would likely be 
detained in a local jail until such time as the U.S. Marshals Service can transport the defendant to 
the designated federal prison. 
WHEREFORE, defendant Aleta Necole Thomas’s Motion to Extend Self-Surrender Date 
[Doc. 130] is denied.  The defendant, Aleta Necole Thomas, shall report to the institution 
designated by the Bureau of Prisons before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
