Ashley Callen Joins Jenner & Block as Partner

Ashley Callen is joining Jenner & Block as a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office. She will serve as Co-Chair of the Congressional Investigations Practice and will also be a member of the Government Controversies and Public Policy Litigation Practice.

Callen brings 25 years of experience in senior congressional roles to Jenner & Block, further enhancing the firm’s well-regarded Congressional Investigations Practice. Most recently, she served as General Counsel to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), where she advised him on general legal matters, ethics, oversight and investigations and personnel. In that role, she also managed the House’s investigative agenda, coordinated priorities across committees and provided strategic guidance on high-profile, politically sensitive issues.

Before advising Speaker Johnson, Callen served as General Counsel to House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), offering legal and strategic counsel on legislative and oversight matters. She has also held senior investigative roles on several influential House committees, including Deputy Staff Director for the Oversight and Government Reform Committee under Ranking Member James Comer (R-KY), Chief Oversight Counsel to the House Judiciary Committee under Ranking Member Doug Collins (R-GA) and in senior staff roles on the Agriculture and Science Committees under Chairman Mike Conaway (R-TX) and Lamar Smith (R-TX). Her experience includes advising on high-stakes investigations such as presidential impeachment proceedings and pandemic-era oversight. Callen has also led the Republican Staff for the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, preparing members for high-profile public hearings and complex inquiries.

Callen’s move to Jenner & Block also reunites her with longtime colleague Jon Skladany, a partner in the firm’s Congressional Investigations Practice and Government Controversies and Public Policy Litigation Practice. The two worked closely together on Capitol Hill, including during their time on the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis and the House Oversight Committee. Skladany, who joined the firm in 2023, brings over a fecade of experience advising House Republican leadership and has remained active in high-profile investigations in private practice. In 2024, he served as special counsel to the House Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump.

Ashley began her career in public service with her home-state senator and later served in the Office of the Air Force General Counsel. She holds a JD from the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University and a BA in English from the University of South Carolina.
