The profile

DoorDash co-founder and director; Head of DoorDash Labs when the company went public in December 2020.

Identity and role

Stanley Tang is one of the four co-founders of DoorDash and has sat on its board since May 2013. DoorDash's IPO prospectus, dated December 8, 2020, lists him as Head of DoorDash Labs and a director, age 27. He was the company's Chief Product Officer from May 2013 to November 2017.

Biography / career arc

Tang holds a B.S. in computer science from Stanford University. From June to September 2012 he was a software engineer at Facebook, according to the prospectus.

DoorDash began in 2013 as Palo Alto Delivery, a website with a Google Voice number and local restaurant menus that charged a $6 delivery fee. Business of Business, retelling the founders' own account in December 2020, reports that Tony Xu and Evan Moore brought in Andy Fang, a Stanford computer-science undergraduate, and that Fang brought in his classmate Tang. Moore left after 17 months.

At the IPO, Tang beneficially owned 13,412,235 shares of Class B common stock, counting options exercisable within 60 days of September 30, 2020. Before the offering, Tony Xu, Fang and Tang signed a voting agreement that gives Xu an irrevocable proxy to vote Fang's and Tang's Class B shares. The prospectus says the three co-founders would together hold about 69% of the voting power after the offering.

Pandemic-relief / PPP-EIDL role

DoorDash was not a PPP borrower or lender. Its role in the pandemic economy was as the platform between restaurants, consumers and Dashers, the couriers DoorDash classifies as independent contractors. The December 2020 prospectus describes the company's pandemic measures. It cut commissions by 50% for local restaurant partners with five or fewer locations, which it says reached about 180,000 restaurants in the United States, Canada and Australia. It made no-contact delivery the default, supplied safety equipment to Dashers, and gave financial assistance to some eligible Dashers. It said it might use part of the IPO proceeds to fund a $200 million pledge under its Main Street Strong program for merchants, Dashers and local communities.

The prospectus does not assign any of these programs to Tang.

Their own relief

Neither the SBA's public PPP loan-level data (September 30, 2024 release) nor the USAspending COVID-EIDL award files we searched list a loan to a borrower named Stanley Tang. The PPP data show no loan to DoorDash, Inc.; the PPP borrower records that carry the DoorDash name are small loans to borrowers outside San Francisco, where the company has its headquarters.

No court filing, enforcement order or criminal charge in our archive names Tang. The legal proceedings DoorDash described in its December 2020 prospectus are company matters, including California lawsuits over whether Dashers are independent contractors or employees, with claims under the state's Private Attorneys General Act.

Where they are now (2025–2026)

Our most recent primary source on Tang's role is the December 2020 prospectus. The July 2026 version of a Wikipedia article still calls him DoorDash's co-founder and chief product officer, a title the prospectus says he left in November 2017. We have no later primary record of his title.
