Identity and role
Paul Pietschner is the relator in United States ex rel. Pietschner v. Kabbage, Inc., et al., No. 4:21-cv-110-SDJ (E.D. Tex.). DOJ's May 2024 corporate-settlement release described the Pietschner relator as a former legal analyst in Kabbage's collections department (the accountant who submitted PPP applications to Kabbage and other lenders was the relator in the Massachusetts Berteletti case); DOJ's December 2024 intervention complaint identifies Pietschner more specifically as a Georgia resident who began working at Kabbage in 2015 in credit operations and later became a legal analyst in collections. The complaint says he was furloughed in March 2020, returned around May or June 2020, and assisted with Kabbage's PPP lending activities.
Pandemic relief role
He brought one of the qui tam actions that fed into the federal False Claims Act resolution against bankrupt Kabbage/KServicing.
The E.D. Tex. docket shows Pietschner filing sealed motions and seal-related papers in early 2021 and 2023. The DOJ press release states that the $120 million Kabbage/KServicing resolution included claims in Pietschner's action, alongside United States ex rel. Berteletti v. Kabbage in Massachusetts.
DOJ's later intervention complaint says Pietschner filed the qui tam action in February 2021 and alleged FCA violations on behalf of the United States. The government's complaint against former Kabbage executives alleged, among other things, inflated loan calculations, improper claims for SBA processing fees, and inadequate fraud controls. Those are allegations; no court has ruled on them. On March 19, 2026, Judge Sean D. Jordan stayed discovery in the executives' case pending four motions to dismiss (order).
Legal status / government-program record
We found no public record of a claim against Pietschner personally. His qui tam complaint put Kabbage's PPP loan-calculation and fraud-control conduct into the FCA record.
Where they are now
We found no current biography beyond the 2021 complaint's description of him as a former Kabbage legal analyst.
Pietschner's qui tam complaint was the E.D. Tex. case assigned to Judge Sean D. Jordan. DOJ's December 2024 intervention complaint named former Kabbage executives Robert Frohwein and Kathryn Petralia as defendants. The parallel Massachusetts relator action was United States ex rel. Berteletti v. Kabbage. The FCA settlement was resolved as a claim against the KServicing bankruptcy estate, which was before Judge Craig T. Goldblatt in Delaware.
