Identity and role

Christi A. Grimm — Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (the sixth HHS IG). Career HHS-OIG official; Principal Deputy Inspector General and Acting IG from January 2020; Senate-confirmed February 17, 2022; sworn in February 22, 2022; removed January 24, 2025 (Wikipedia, secondary).

Biography / career arc

  • Before: roughly two decades at HHS-OIG in policy and oversight roles (Wikipedia, secondary).
  • During: as Acting IG she issued an April 6, 2020 report surveying hospitals (March 23–27, 2020) that documented severe testing-supply and PPE shortages. President Trump publicly attacked the report and her; he nominated a replacement (Jason Weida) in May 2020, but the nomination stalled and she continued to serve. She later oversaw HHS-OIG's pandemic work (HHS-OIG COVID oversight page capture).
  • After: removed on January 24, 2025 in the mass firing of inspectors general (Wikipedia, secondary); in an April 2025 STAT interview she discussed the threat to IG independence .

Pandemic-relief / PPP-EIDL role

The HHS counterpart to the SBA and DOL IGs, covering pandemic health spending and the Provider Relief Fund. Hannibal Ware and Larry Turner were removed in the same January 2025 round (see their profiles).

No bias finding. She was publicly accused by President Trump in 2020 of partisanship over the hospital-shortage report (a political attack, not a legal-filing accusation).
