Exhibit 1 Case 1:22-cr-00232-JKB Document 23-1 Filed 06/12/23 Page 1 of 2 LETTER OF MARINA BARABASH My name is Marina Barabash, and I am the sister of Alexander Barabash. I can characterize my brother as a gentleman; a man of his word that always does what he says he is going to do. He is incredibly self-driven, dependable, realizable, and responsible. We are a remarkably close family; we spend every single holiday together, in fact for the past 20 years most major holidays have been spent at my brother’s house where he does all the hosting, decorating, and cooking. As a younger man he never got involved in any inappropriate activities. Alex was a straight- A student at Towson Catholic High school, elected to several clubs and committees, along with being on the Varsity Wrestling team. He began working at the age of fifteen at a local movie theater as an usher, then promoted to concessions, and every summer would collaborate with my dad learning electrical engineering. I am the older sister by eight years and have watched my younger brother develop into an incredible human being that any sister would be proud of. He is an enthusiastic creative designer, a brilliant builder who has devoted almost three decades to his career. Always puts the needs of others before his own. Rehabilitates weaknesses, praises strengths, and motivates individuals to be the best version of themselves. Alex supported a regularly active lifestyle spending 20 years body sculpting, 10 years in a hockey league, and has always had and adores animals; Great Danes to be specific, the love of his life. Over the years whenever our parents would go away for a vacation my brother would be at their home the next day installing, repairing, or building something so upon their return they would come home to a pleasant surprise after their vacation. No one in our family has tattoos, consumes alcohol, smokes, uses any type of substances, never has there been a sole case of any verbal or physical abuse, and any rules broken. Our parents have been married for 62 years and instilled in the both of us to be productive citizens of society. Our parents are old, our dad has Dementia. I am currently caring for them alone and it is extremely burdensome. Alex has apologized a thousand times for placing this burden on the people that he loves the most. I need my brother and my parents need their son in their lives. I humbly plead for consideration of your honors leniency.
