WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX), Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business, wrote to Administrator Michael Reagan of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding five rules that, if implemented, could significantly harm small businesses. Chairman Williams issued the following statement.

“On day one, this Administration started wrapping Main Street – and the American economy – in red tape, and they haven’t stopped,” said Chairman Williams. “We know the EPA is one of the worst regulatory offenders in all of government, increasing the paperwork load by 6.5 million hours. They seem determined to regulate some industries, like oil and gas, out of the marketplace. For America’s economy to get back on track, the federal government needs to get out of the way and let Main Street work. More regulations will only serve to run our economy further into the ground.”

“The House Committee on Small Business (Committee) writes regarding five of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) rules and proposed rules that could substantially harm U.S. small businesses. Since 2021, rules issued by the EPA are estimated to have cost the U.S. economy over $249.7 billion across all industries and increased paperwork hours for all businesses by nearly 6.5 million hours.
