                Dear Chairman Durbin and Ranking Member Grassley,

                We write to express our support for the nomination of Carlos Felipe Uriarte as Assistant
                Attorney General for the Office of Legislative Affairs at the Department of Justice (DOJ). Having
                served in that position we appreciate the importance of this role. Mr. Uriarte’s bipartisan
                credentials, success at senior roles in government and the private sector, and direct experience
                translating between Congress and the Executive branch and between the private sector and
                government will serve him and the American people well.

                Mr. Uriarte brings essential experience and judgment to the role of Assistant Attorney General.
                He began his career in Washington as a law clerk to the Republican Chair of the Senate
                Judiciary Committee, Arlen Specter. Mr. Uriarte returned to government service to work for
                Representative Judy Chu and the late Elijah Cummings during Mr. Cummings’s tenure as the
                ranking member of the House Oversight Committee. After the Oversight Committee, Mr. Uriarte
                moved to the executive branch where he eventually served as an Associate Deputy Attorney
                General in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General at DOJ. In the private sector, Mr. Uriarte
                worked as a regulatory compliance executive at Capital One and as the lead regulatory lawyer
                at Unite Us. Mr. Uriarte recently completed another tour on Capitol Hill, serving as Chief
                Counsel for Investigations to House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn on the House Select
                Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis.

                Each of us signing this letter ha served as Assistant Attorney General for the Office of
                Legislative Affairs in both Republican and Democratic Administrations. We know from
                experience that the job requires responsiveness to Congress, transparency to the American
                people, and fidelity to the Department's mandate to execute the laws established by Congress.
                Mr. Uriarte’s experience working in Congress and at the Department of Justice has given him a
                healthy respect for the executive and legislative branches and the unique role the DOJ plays in
                our constitutional democracy. We are confident Mr. Uriarte will effectively perform this important
                function.

                We encourage the Senate to confirm Mr. Uriarte as Assistant Attorney General. Please feel
