The profile
Co-founder and CEO of Middesk, a business-identity verification company; signatory of the March 24, 2020 fintech letter.
Identity and role
Kyle Mack is the co-founder and CEO of Middesk, a business-identity and KYB (Know Your Business) verification platform in San Francisco. He has held the role since the company's founding and still leads it.
Biography
Mack co-founded Middesk with Kurt Ruppel, both from the background-check company Checkr (TechCrunch); the company went through Y Combinator (YC page). Middesk automates business verification: confirming that a company is real, registered and who it claims to be. As of the March 2020 letter, Middesk had raised a roughly $4 million seed round led by Accel with Sequoia in 2019 (TechCrunch).
Pandemic relief role
Mack signed the fintech coalition letter (published under OnDeck's banner) as "Kyle Mack, Co-Founder & CEO, Middesk." Dated March 24, 2020, the letter asked Congress to give Treasury flexibility to push "upwards of $500 billion" to small businesses through online lenders and others, and stated: "We seek no gain from this crisis. Our only aim is to protect the millions of small businesses that we are proud to call our customers."
Middesk had a small PPP role: an April 2020 Alloy post describes an Alloy–Middesk–Evolve Bank & Trust collaboration on business-identity checks for SBA lenders, and Middesk later claimed to have verified over 50,000 businesses applying for PPP loans (company blog). No source cited here shows the high-volume non-bank PPP lenders using Middesk.
Legal status / government-program record
No PPP enforcement action, borrower-fraud allegation, civil settlement, debarment, or criminal charge involving Mack or Middesk was identified. Middesk's role was vendor-side KYB verification for lenders, not lender-of-record activity and not borrower intake at the Womply/Blueacorn scale.
The "50,000 businesses verified" figure is a company claim, not a lender-level count tied to SBA files.
Where they are now (2025–2026)
Mack remains co-founder and CEO of Middesk. The company raised a $16 million Series A in March 2021 (company blog) and a $57 million Series B in June 2022, co-led by Insight Partners and Canapi Ventures (Insight Partners).
