Identity and role

Jonathan Grandperrin is the co-founder and chief executive of Mindee, a document-parsing and data-extraction company with a developer-first API: upload an invoice, a receipt, an ID, or a tax document, and Mindee returns the fields inside it as structured data, using deep learning and computer vision. The company was founded in Paris and operates from both Paris and San Francisco; the legal entity is Mindee SAS, and it maintains a US presence consistent with a Mindee, Inc.

Mindee's 2021 funding release names a four-person founding team: Grandperrin as chief executive and three co-founders.

Biography

His career before Mindee is cited to The Org, which lists CTO roles at TankYou and ECTOR after an engineering stint at PSA Peugeot Citroën; a UC Berkeley master's degree is cited to Crunchbase; we do not have a copy.

He is the company's public voice; his framing that "document processing is the bottleneck for most modern workflows" is in the 2021 release.

The company and its PPP role

Mindee was founded in Paris in 2018 (Y Combinator page and 2024 release) and went through Y Combinator's Winter 2021 batch (YC page). The product began as document-parsing APIs plus a platform for custom models, added an open-source OCR library called docTR (GitHub), and in 2024 moved toward generative document processing with docTI ; TechCrunch's 2021 coverage names customers including Qonto, PayFit, Spendesk and Lucca.

Its PPP role was as a back-office OCR vendor inside Womply's stack. The link is documented in the corrected final award in Womply's arbitration against Benworth Capital Partners, which describes Womply's technology as extracting data from applicants' documents using three third-party providers (Inscribe, Mindee and Ocrolus), with the extracted data surfaced for lenders inside the Teslar portal. The FTC's complaint against Womply refers only generically to a third-party technology company and does not name Mindee.

Mindee's API extracted structured fields from PPP applicants' uploaded tax and financial documents. Mindee's own site and press do not mention Womply or PPP.

Their own relief

No relief located for Mindee: we found no loan to the company in SBA PPP and COVID-EIDL records under Mindee's name (the "Mindee" entries in the data are individuals' first names).

No litigation, enforcement action, or adverse legal finding against Mindee or any of its founders appears in the public record. Mindee is named in the Womply–Benworth arbitration only as a third-party technology vendor inside Womply's stack, not as a party to the dispute. The FTC matter against Womply resolved by a stipulated settlement, not a litigated liability finding, and named Mindee nowhere.

Where they are now (2025–2026)

Mindee raised a €2 million seed round in 2019 (Bpifrance release, Maddyness profile) and came out of stealth with a $14 million Series A in October 2021 led by GGV Capital (Business Wire and TechCrunch). No later priced round has been reported in the sources we have.

Grandperrin remains chief executive, and the company has pushed into LLM-based document processing with docTI (2024 release). Paris remains the registered headquarters, with San Francisco as the US base (releases).
