Attorney General Barr's March 24, 2020 memorandum
created the Justice Department's COVID-19 Hoarding and Price Gouging Task Force and placed Carpenito in charge while he was U.S. Attorney for New Jersey. That work focused on medical supplies, Defense Production Act issues, hoarding, and price gouging at the beginning of the emergency, before the PPP lender-fraud docket.
He left DOJ before the PPP-fintech prosecutions, the House fintech report, the Blueacorn indictments, and the FTC PPP-marketing settlements, and later moved to King & Spalding's Special Matters and Government Investigations practice.
