Career arc

Sloane is "a founder" of Newtek, which was "founded in 1998 to provide debt and equity financing to SMBs" and grew into a business-services platform combining SBA lending, payments, payroll and insurance for small businesses (Form 10-K for 2014). Before Newtek he was a Managing Director of Smith Barney (2015 proxy statement). On January 6, 2023, Newtek completed its acquisition of National Bank of New York City and became a financial holding company; it renamed itself NewtekOne a week later (Q4 2022 earnings release).

Pandemic relief role

Newtek Small Business Finance ran PPP through its existing SBA 7(a) operation. Per SBA's PPP loan-level data, NSBF was the lender of record on 26,174 PPP loans worth about $1.89 billion, earning an estimated $87.8 million in SBA processing fees.

Newtek's 2022 earnings release reported its 2021 PPP fee income as non-recurring.
