The Honorable Marcia G. Cooke U.S District Judge Dear honor, my name is Georgette Pomposo, David’s wife and I am writing this letter to share with you who David Hines is. I meet David about 2.5 years ago, since then we have been together as a couple, and it seems like a short time but we have shared many and very important moments and experiences. I have included a few pictures at the end of the letter to show you the type of person David is. He have become one of the most important person in my life, He is an amazing loving father, husband and person, David, chose to take care of me and my son from the very beginning, he chose to be there with us and for us. Any hesitation he chose to take the responsibility of being a father for my son and raise my son next to me since my son was 2 years old. He considers Patrick his son too and my son call him daddy. David is a very noble man and I see how much love he has for our son. When I see how David is with Patrick (who is the most important person in my life) the interactions and the love that they both have for each other is indescribable. My son is just 5 years old and have a strong personality but David has so much patience with him and has such a loving way to teach him that David is the only person that Patrick really listens to. Since Patrick started eating solid foods he struggled a lot with food selectivity. He would only eat 2 specific food items in a specific presentation and would not try new foods. It was very frustrating for me because even when I took him to therapy and spoke with doctors, they couldn’t find a way to make my son even try something different he did not even want to touch new food. David was determined to teach Patrick to eat and at the time i said great, but honestly i didn’t think that it would work because I feel that i have tried every method and so for me i was just hoping that one day because he is growing he just gonna start eating new things but David told me that he had a method to teach him and we just needed to be patient; so he started, and the first few weeks we literally sit at the table for every meal. David stayed at the table for more than 3 hours sometimes just feeding him and talking to him. David was there without moving just talking to Patrick making him eat with games with different strategies. He teaches my son with so much love, and I just couldn’t believe how my son after years of eating just two things, David in a few weeks dedicated so much time and he taught Patrick to enjoy new foods. Now he eats literally everything we feed him and that is something that i am always going to be grateful for. This is just one example of so many things David has taught Patrick. Patrick has spoken only Spanish since he was 1.5 years old and speak Spanish with my son because I didn’t speak English before I met David and my ex-husband, the biological father of my son speaks Spanish too, so my son didn’t speak English at all before, and he stopped going to the daycare 2 months before the Covid-19 start. Since then, David started teaching English to Patrick and now my son speaks fluent English because of him. Case 1:21-cr-20011-DPG Document 52-1 Entered on FLSD Docket 05/09/2021 Page 1 of 6 Since this situation happened a lot of things have changed in our lives. Before, I was usually at home taking my son to the daycare or the park doing errands etc, and my husband was the one who was working and supporting our family. Now i am the one who is working and supporting the family financially, i am working driving with Uber and i am able to work and do it because we are a team and he stays at home with Patrick while I work because David and Patrick are my only family here. My mom lives in Venezuela and my brother in France. So the truth is that David is my only family and support in this country. I admire my husband a lot, i admire the man he is, how loving, noble and sensitive he is. Mostly, I admire his honesty and how committed and dedicated he is. He has worked since he was 17 years old in many different kinds of job, in warehouse, in restaurants bussing tables and in moving companies, until he chose to start his own business at 24 years old achieving all he has achieved at a professional level in his business like being in the top 10 of best moving companies in the country with a company he started from zero and that is something really valuable and admirable despite his childhood and the fact that he didn’t go to school. He started a business from scratch by himself and made it a very successful business. It is inevitable to talk about drugs because I feel this has had a big impact in David life. I don’t take out the responsibility that we all have for our decisions in life, we are adults and we make our own decisions. Since I meet him i saw that he has been struggling with drugs for long time that was something shocking to me because I have never met someone who had tried and used so much drugs. I am very grateful to God for my parents and my family for my childhood and that i was raised with so much love and normality, and i said this because David wasn’t too lucky in that aspect. I am no one to blame him or his parents for anything but I truly believe that is not fair for a kid being jumping around living in different houses with uncles, aunts, mom, dad, grandma’s, etc. I can’t imagine how horrible that was for David felling rejected for his parents and living in other states with other family because his parents were struggling their own problems. A kid who was getting maybe one phone call a month or less from his parents and he asking in every phone call that he wanted to be with his mom, is not fair for a kid have to live with uncles and not even know why his parents chose to send him there, or worse, felling completely rejected by his parents without knowing what he did wrong to be there. Also, it is heartbreaking to think that your own father is the one who give you drugs to try when you are only a child. As I said at the beginning I don’t take out the responsibility of our actions as an adult and I know David is the one who truly believe that his decisions in life are not his parents fault. He doesn’t blame them or believe that his childhood affects his adult decisions related with drugs, but I truly believe that our childhood is fundamental for who we are and how we are as a person and have a lot of influence in our decisions in life. One of the reasons I believe he is so loving, noble and sweet is because his lack of love from his own parents that are the people that should be there the most when we are kids no matter how they feel, but I know David was lacking love. And I don’t use drugs i have never even tried drugs, but i feel that the struggle that David has had for years abusing drugs is maybe looking for something to help him to feel good somehow, which i also know that drugs just make it worse, it is not something that will really help him to feel better but also worse and this is something that now he knows too. Case 1:21-cr-20011-DPG Document 52-1 Entered on FLSD Docket 05/09/2021 Page 2 of 6 David is a person who believes a lot in God and has a lot of faith in God for everything. He knows that he has made bad decisions in his past; But in my opinion I truly believe that the biggest problem has been the abuse of drugs because all the mistakes and wrong things that David has made in the past was under the effects of drugs. I know for a fact that David since i met him has been struggling with drugs and wanted to quit but it hasn’t been easy for him. When I meet him, he chose to soon be sober for 3 months but then he started again abusing adderall being on and off, he was quitting and taking the pills again he was for a moment very up and down, his mood sometimes was sad sometimes depressed sometimes happy etc. People couldn’t see how he really is because he was hiding behind drugs and he couldn’t show himself even when he was trying, and every occasion that he got in some trouble in the past he was under the effects of drugs or alcohol. Thank God he could see in some point how much drugs can change and hide who he is and make him make bad decisions or irresponsible decisions. Recently, he started being sober And I admire who he is and how much he has learned from the past and his wrongs because despite his childhood or his mistakes he has learned to be an amazing man, an amazing husband an a wonderful father, and he has chosen to give everything he can and be the best version of himself for our family giving something that he never had when he was a kid but he is doing an amazing job being the man he is today and I am very proud of him. David is an extremely generous person, it doesn’t matter how much or how little he can has, he will give it to anyone just to help. I remember couple of months before this happened he met a man named Roger that is homeless and David was paying for Roger to live in a hotel so he can be comfortable. He also bought an electric bike for him because Roger have some physical disabilities. Also I have seen many time how Davud help in many different way and many different people. He is always being there for people. He has always been supporting and there when anyone needs him in every aspect. Also I sincerely believe that we are responsible for our mistakes but we are not our mistakes, that doesn’t define who we are, and is very important to me the capacity that David has to learn from his wrongs. David has brought to my life lots of love and joy and i am very grateful to God for our family. He is a good person and I truly believe that his wrongful actions are the result of a past of abuse of drugs that I know he really regrets. Thank you your honor, for taking these words into consideration, and for taking the time to read this letter that I wrote with respect to support my husband, David Tyler Hines.
